X-Realms 1.5.4 patch - Final

Sep 07

All right here peeps, while doing the last patch to fix RTE 40020 a slight error occured in the process that made it impossible to login to a server other than the one you were hosting. We apologize for the inconvenience and have thusly corrected the error. You can download the new and improved client here: www.xrealms.com/xrclientpatch.zip Please, if you are still able to get RTE 40020 or cannot connect to another server at all, let us know. Also, the main download does not include this patch yet, it's pretty early in the morning as I type this so I intend to get to that tomorrow. Once again, I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused anyone.

On a side note, Nero has returned and we both have light school schedules. We've noticed morale has gotten a little low here lately and we'd like to reward you guys for your patience and understanding. I know it hasn't been easy for those of you that have stuck by us while we've put X-1 on the back burner for X-2, and X-2 on the backburner for school. So we've decided to take the next couple of months to see if we can't whip up a mouth watering update in gratitude.

I don't want to disclose any details, since I don't want to make any promises and then not be able to deliver because school drop kicks Nero and/or I with a surprise amount of homework, but it should be a substantial update so I would advise any serious game makers out there take the next couple of months to think up a good game plan, and maybe use X-Realms 1.5.4 to get some mapping or development experience down.

We also do this update in hopes that it'll actually inspire people to make games, instead of waiting for X-2. As I've said before, we're not positive when that will come out, since we want it to be the ultimate engine, bar none, hence why we stopped mid-way with our VB6 version to do things over with the much faster, flexible, and let's face it, sexier programming language, Visual C++.

Those who would like the possibility of getting to see the new software early, I encourage you to drop either DarkDragoon, or myself a line, as we both need a few workers for games we have in the works. Last I checked, DeeDee needed some competent mappers, and I'm always seeking people that can compose midis, wav files for sound effects, or do quality graphic work, as well as skilled mappers as well.

P.S. Sorry Shadow, I know this is going to come as news to you as well. I meant to mention that Nero and I were going to hold onto the source a little longer, and I hope you understand. We had high expectations, and when we dropped the project we left it with many regrets. Fixing some of our mistakes is just something we have to do before we can truly pass the source onto someone else without looking back.

It has been awhile since I've done an update, so here goes.

First off, with the recent patches of X-Realms it appears that an error has occured with the networking system for whatever reason that makes connection to a server highly unlikely to impossible. I've always felt the networking on X-Realms has been subpar, and in my time working on the software that's the only aspect I did not really optimize. So, feeling a bit guilty I asked Shadow to hand me the reigns of the software long enough to fix things the way I feel they should've been fixed before.

On top of fixing up the networking issue with X-Realms, I have agreed to assist Shadow with opening the attack subs so players may script them. For the most part he has done the bulk of the work, I'm merely working in the capacity of a debugger.

Folks may remember discussions of porting X-Realms to another language like Visual Basic.NET, the notion has been suspended until further notice. This is in part due to the amount of work necessary to do a conversion, and that we believe we may have found a suitable solution that would take considerably less time. More information on this will be released at a later date.

X-2, a phrase we don't throw around much anymore. What can I say about this that you probably haven't heard in awhile? Progress is still being made, and the core engine that will drive X-2 has received a lot of work. All that is really left is finding a suitable scripting language and coding the majority of the software that makes use of the engine. All in all, with school interference and loss of Nero, I would place the project at about 35% done.

For now, I think that's about it. Any questions, feel free to ask.

Not going with X-Realms for the moment.

*Sighs* Oh well...

I was thinking of using X-Realms for my new project, but there are some features that I really need, and this engine doesn't have. I'll probably have to go with a copy of MSE, and try to work on it myself. I'm almost sure that I'll be running into many problems, for lack of experience in VB6 programming. But maybe this is what I need to learn once and for all. I've been meaning to do that for so long. Now I have the chance.

Arwym comes back... again!

Well, hello there. :3

Seems like many things happened while I was gone. I can't recognize much of what's around now, and the place seems kind of dead. I am not sure of why. So X-Realms is still being developed? Then I think I'll try it. :)

Jukebox

Jul 20

Well I spent a few days making a Jukebox. The player is finished and is capable of playing any MP3 file. The actual Jukebox needs work. It has 90 songs only, no search, and no playlist. I'm making a playlist feature so you can make playlists, and obviously making a search feature.

I made the player with flash and the Jukebox with Javascript/PHP/MySQL. I also made a script to run through the jukebox and "validate" all the songs to make sure the links aren't broken. It deletes any broken links. Extremely helpful.

The reason I'm posting this is because I'm proud of myself for achieving this since I'm not actually great with flash. I hope to expand the library to around at LEAST 2,500 songs in the next few months and after that I will update it when I feel the need.

On a side note, people have been telling me to add their IMs to MSN. I do not have MSN, but my Yahoo! and AIM are ledi51 so catch me on one of those.

I've also noticed that there's no BBCode here. I've made forum systems and I could make a BBCode system in minutes, if anybody's interested.

People wouldn't leave me alone, so I finally gave in and created what I think is a patch to the RTE 40020 problem and you can download it from http://www.newworlddynasty.com/client_patch.zip.

The patch also allows users to change the delay between frames to hopefully increase client FPS to roughly 20 again. Now as I've been telling people on an individual basis, if you have problems with the software direct them towards Shadow instead of to me. He isn't going to learn if you guys don't give him a chance.

Snake's Dissapointing Annoucement

Jul 18

Advents of Chaos is no longer and XR game, and I will not post any information regarding how much it's being developed from here on out. G will not be the server host, but be assured AoC is still being worked on. I won't post anything here about it simply because it wouldn't be fair.

It almost pains me to tell you guys; sorry. =/

Snake's View On 2-D RPG Gaming (XR Wise)

Jul 12

Well, as you guys know (or should) most of the ownership of AoC has been given to Kio due to the fact that I'm a pretty lame guy to choose when it comes to starting something. To be honest the whole idea of AoC was to bring something great for this community, and well it just slipped away as time gone by.

I was suprised to hear that Kio was even thinking about AoC even after my abnormally long absence on MSN, so I figured if anyone should be doing something it should be him. He's been waiting faithfully for me to do something and I almsot failed him, shamefully and even now he's not pissed <_<. I can't sit and watch AoC made without a proper story line because then this'll just be another one of those addicting yet boring games.

So as of now, I will be making the story for Advents of Chaos, continueing with my ideas and such to help keep it going, with Kio's insight on things. Just thought I'd at least make some sort of appearence before I do though. With Griever as a server host though, I see no reason whatsoever as to why anything should stop Kio or me from making a successful game, so keep your fingers crossed and we'll bring something new to the community of X-Realms.

Deathblade

Jul 11

Well, not that anybody really cares about me or my progress, and not that anybody on this site really knows me, but I'm kicking this blog thing off.

So on this blog I'll be posting my progress on my MMORPG, Deathblade and other related subjects. Maybe sometime throw in some randomness that has nothing to do with it.

So I got it started and working, I had a whole bunch of maps and whatnot, but then Griever announced the coming release of XRealms 2. Obviously, I had to get that so I deleted my MMORPG and started planning for the new and improved Deathblade. I drew out maps, areas, and enemies. I didn't draw out anything in TOO much detail because it's so much more fun when it's not planned out to the last period.

Of course, Griever had some life issues, and XRealms 2 was pushed back a few times so now there's no expectancy date that I know of. I planned a bit more and then waited. I got into other things like making people websites for $$ and making flash games/projects and mostly updating my own websites.

I actually considered making a Flash MMORPG. It may not be as easy as XRealms, but it'd be a heck of a lot more customizable and more like a personal signature. I knew how to make it, using my MySQL database. I could. Plus MySQL is a lot faster than local FlatFiling which XRealms 1 in VB was coded and if I'm not mistaken X2 will be. I'm not going to underestimate the power or speed of C++ though. I got a bit into that too. I checked a C++ book out of a library which came with Dev_C++, a noncommercial C++ coder/compiler made in a college, or so the program said. Maybe DeVry?

Anyway, C++ is extremely fast and powerful, but flash isn't slow either, and with flash I could either make a downloadable client like XRealms or have it be Browser-Based. Or both. Plus I'm a better with flash than C++ anyway. I had to return the book after a month. I learned enough to make a few basic C++ apps though. Like a calculator, and a short text RPG.

For now, I'm going to stick with X2 though. Maybe someday I'll make a flash MMORPG, or maybe even a C++ one. For now, I have a lot going on and I don't have much time for core programming.

So that's concluding my first blog post. Hope you check up, it'd make me feel bad if nobody cared and I was just writing this for myself.

AoC Online

Jul 11

Well, it only took months longer than it should have, but AoC is online for work finally. We now have a new 24/7 server host. Thank you to a very special someone for that. (You know who you are) We are getting mapping completed as we speak. Currently, we're working out a few bugs in the client, then we're good to go.

::UPDATES::

We have updated the client to an *ahem* edited *ahem* version of 1.5.4. The new version should work out a few issues with frame rates, logging, etc.

New staff members have joined since the last update. I'll post the current staff list below. And we are still looking for mappers and developers. If you wish to participate in any way, or have any questions or comments, please feel free to add me on MSN. crazy_monkey509@hotmail.com Just say you are from the XR site and what your name is.

Irving is back in the project, and he's getting our storyline going quite well. We have many plans for all kinds of cool places to explore. All kinds of quests are planned to keep players occupied on something other than just levels all the time. Though, there will be PvP options.

::Staff::
Owners: Kio and Irving aka. Solid Snake
Server host: TBA
Administrators: None as of yet
Developers: Griffin, AbelNox
Mappers: Gec
Scripters: Phoenix

That's all I can think of for now. So feel free to pop me an IM.

-Kio
